Dubbed the "King of Clay" for his success on the surface, Nadal won the next eight of nine French Open tournaments, only failing to win in 2009.

Beyond his success at the French Open, Nadal completed the career Grand Slam, having won all four major tournaments. He won his first of two Wimbledon championships in 2008, secured the Australian Open title in 2009, and the following year earned his first of two US Open titles. The Spaniard has won 14 Grand Slams throughout his career and appeared in 21 Grand Slam finals. Sixteen of those 21 finals matches have been against Roger Federer.
