Shadow Creek - A Golf Oasis

The CEO of Lakha Investments LLC, in Bellevue, Washington, Amin Andy Lakha enjoys playing golf in his free time. Amin Andy Lakha’s favorite courses include Shadow Creek, located not far north of Las Vegas.

A world-class golf oasis in the middle of a barren desert, Shadow Creek made major waves at the time of construction. Today, this brainchild of casino developer Steve Wynn continues to attract players from around the world.

In some ways, Shadow Creek is the perfect extension of the madness that characterizes Las Vegas. Wynn decided to build it in the mid-1980s, purportedly after a Japanese businessman lost several million dollars at the Mirage. He chose a 350-acre site and hired Tom Fazio to design the layout.

According to rumors, Wynn told Fazio that he wanted waterfalls, lakes, exotic birds, and hundreds of types of trees on the course. The final product is not far off from these lofty demands, though it remains heavily guarded by a tall fence that blocks any views until players come inside. Photography is forbidden among players, and even the airspace above is protected by the presence of a nearby military base. Despite the mystery, the course ranked among the top 10 in the world within years of the completion of construction.
